Cavemans U.S. tour

Cavemans U.S. tour
We need an even number, can't wheel Moab with 11 Jeeps, just ain't right.

Dam. Wish I could but finances says we got just enough left to see a few more sights before we head home. So I need to be taken off the wishful thinking list. Maybe next year. I'll save my pennies.
Today we ended up in Jackson Tennessee. Home of the Casey Jones museum. Will be heading East again in the morning.

In the picture of the coal mine scene there is a miner holding a safety lantern. Coming from a coal mining family, I just happen to have one of those. When the flame drops below the marks in the glass, there is not enough oxygen to breathe. On the emblem it states Permissable Department of the Interior, Bureau of Mines. They used these after the canery days. A few pics:

That lantern is very cool!
Thanks for sharing.

Yea that lantern is really cool. Once that canary died it was probably to late for the miners also

I’m not sure why your quoting me, my reference had nothing to do with how or for what purpose the lantern was used.

I should have better explained how the flame safety lamp was used. It wasn't a lack of oxygen, but an increase in flammable methane gas the lamp was used to detect. Too much methane and get everyone out and increase ventilation until methane levels dropped. It was used to help prevent explosions.

i was only X2 how very interesting and nice that piece was because I have never seen one of those and thanking for sharing. Only lamps I had ever seen in any mine was the typical large glass ones

Nice. I thought it was just a lantern for light. Never to old to learn something new.

Good times with family
(last pic) Did he back out at that point or ford ahead?

He forded ahead. Some things are inherited. No teaching needed. Funny thing, I tried it and forgot to put it in 4 wheel drive. Got about 6 inches of mud inside before i got my sh:# together.

A bunch of videos have been popping up on our YouTube suggestions about this area. We'd love to go there some day.
Glad that you got to spend some time with your son.
