Had one on a 76 Golden Eagle I owned a zillion years ago. Loved it! Great off and on road. Google up Novak Conversions if you don't have it as a short cut already. Great info!

So I just came across a T-18 with a Dana 20 Transfer Case attached for $ 350 and he says it's in good condition. sounds pretty good to me waiting for him to call me. What do you guys think?
See if he will let you take the top off of the T-18 to inspect the gears and shift forks. Make sure it is a short shaft. Check rotation to see if it's a 6.32:1. If all those check out that's a good price. We have a long shaft T-18 (from a J series truck) and it sure takes up the space, shifters are further back in the tub which can interfere with the seat adjustment. Ours also requires a double cardon rear drive shaft.

^^^ This. $350 is an okay price, depending on if it's for a CJ or not. If it's out of a J truck or a Wagoneer, it won't just drop into your CJ.

My 1976 CJ5 had a T-18 , but it was a close ratio with the 4.02:1 1st gear.

Put it in 1st gear, with the Transfer Case in 2wd, turn the main shaft and count the rotations.

Research: Jeep Transmissions: T-98, T-18, T-18A

You still have the 84, right? It would have a Dana 300 Transfer Case . Consider doing a Ford T-18 , T19, or Ford NP435 4spd and adapt it to the Dana 300 . Much better combo, IMHO, than the Dana 20 . And you will have the option of going to 4:1 gearing in the Dana 300 , whereas the Dana 20 limit is 3.15:1.

$350 is a great price around here as long as it's the Jeep bolt in or converted Ford. Usually $600-$900 in my area

If it is a CJ T-18 /Dana 20 $350 is a very decent price. I paid almost twice than amount for a rusty hulk that I knew needed rebuilding. Try to get the whole thing .... Bell housing, clutch fork, yokes along with the Transmission . and Transfer Case . Serviceable drive shafts would be a BIG plus. If course that is if T-18 's aren't extremely common in your area.

Well it turns out that it came out of a full size Cherokee so I think I'm going to pass on it. I need to focus on getting it running. The new gears from Summit should be here tomorrow. Here is the link to it if someone around here would like it.

A Ford input shaft and bearing retainer along with the bell housing would convert the Transmission to a CJ version. Except for the bell housing, they can be purchased at very decent prices in several places on the net. I honestly don't know about quality though. I'm sure they are produced in an Asian country.

I wish I could post pics of it but I can do very little on this site now. I did get new gears and a Dissy from Summit Racing and have the front tore down and the new gear on the front of the cam. I just need to make a trip to the parts store and get the gaskets and a rotor and cap and plug wires and get it put back together.

So I was working on it today and I can't believe I didn't notice this before but it has Levi (Edition) seats in it :D SCORE.

So i got a reman dissy from Summit Racing and then went to Napa to get a cap and rotor for it. When I got home I went to put the cap on and it doesn't fit . So I took it back to Napa with the dissy and the guys there are like yea your right but thats the only one it shows. So I asked him to get another one just in case it's mismarked. It will be here today and if it's the same I guess I will be calling Summit and asking WTF.

Went back with no luck, so I called Summit and they were like  so now they are sending me a cap. I really don't think it should be this hard to put a stock dissy in a AMC 304 .

I'm seeing some big red flags here.
You should be able to go to NAPA and get a dizzy, cap & rotor without issue.

Me too I bet the cap I get from them is the same. I see me sending it all back to them. I got it from them thinking they knew what they were doing.

Hate to ask this ..... What is there about the distributor cap that doesn't fit?

The notch in the cap is not big enough to go over where the wires go thru the dissy but it being a reman I thought well its aftermarket and is bigger but then the clips don't line up they seem to be off by about a 1/8". I could probably make it work with some mods but I don't think I should have to. I'm thinking next week when I'm vac I may just go over to the Jeep junkyard I see if I can a dissy.

I am a DUI HEI Distributor snob, they are pricey, but they are neat, clean, hard hitting and work very well. There are other options, the team rush option is VERY popular.

I pulled my stock distributor from my 360, it worked but I wanted a HEI distributor. You can have it if you want it. You will need your dist. gear, but it's complete. Right now it's just taking up room in my garage.

That is a very nice offer :notworthy: and I would be happy to take it off your hands and pay you for what it costs to send it to me. I will send you a PM with my info and let me know what you need for shipping and I will send you a check. And again many thanks for your help.

HH really is Santa. LOL
