Oh and BTW, yes you should be able to retain your stock drive shafts. Another advantage of this swap, is that although the SM465 is much shorter that the T-4 / T-5 / T-150 once you add the require 3 or so inches of bolt pattern / clocking ring adaptor, you are basically back to stock. So it works out perfectly, unless you are trying to shorten your Transmission /TCase combo for better driveline angle.

i definatly want to keep stock drive shafts. i am not planning on lifting this thing or anything like that. i like the way its sits right now. i also like the idea of using the kit that changes the Transfer Case because then i can put a junk yard tranny in it any time and not have to transfer main shafts. im not going to rebuild my tranny because they are a dime a dozen in the junk yard and i have access to a lift, tranny jack, and i have all the tools i need to change it. so if i get a bad one or break one (not likely with my little 4 banger) then i will just throw another one in it.

I also have a 80 CJ with a bad Transmission . I would like to put in a automatic, is this something that can be swapped ,I use this jeep for plowing so it takes a lot of abuse

dodsone you could look for a TF904 automatic Transmission from a CJ from 1980 to 1983. That would be the easiest swap. The TF904 was used in CJs up to '86 but to make sure you get the correct bolt pattern for your engine dont get anything after '83.
Although that would be an easy swap the TF904 isn't the strongest tranny. It was only used with the four banger. Since you have a 4 cylinder it should work but if you want anything stronger, you will need adapter. The stronger transmissions were installed with larger engines. If that's the route you want to go I would check with Novak Conversions: http://www.novak-adapt.com/

Another tip. Follow this link to update your profile: http://www.jeep-cj.com/forums/profile/edit/
At least fill out the section for your "Vehicle(s)". That way we would know what kind of a jeep you have when you ask questions about it.
