1979 CJ7. 304 V8 3 speed.
I'm new to Jeeps. Just bought a '79 CJ7 . I'm seeing that there are certain options on different jeeps and it matters to know what you have when ordering parts. For example, QuadraTrac . I have no idea if my jeep has this or even what it is. I'm assuming posi trac rear? But where can I go for this info?

Also, do jeeps have hidden build sheets? I have messed with restoing GM vehicles and they often had build sheets hidden on the car from assembly line workers.
 
Welcome to the site, quadratract is a type of Transfer Case . You can get a lot of info at the cj comprehensive data section of this fourm. As for as build sheets, I haven't heard of Jeep using them on the Cj, but I could be wrong.😎

QuadraTrac was a a full time 4wd Transfer Case used in Cj7s with an automatic Transmission until 1980. Your Cj has a 3 SPD manual Transmission most likely the T-150 .

I read the database section on CJs top to bottom. A lot of good stuff in there with links to explanations about axels and darn near everything else.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure I'll have other questions that will have you guys scratching your heads. I am mechanically inclined, but know ziltch about jeeps, but I'm figuring things out with your guys help. So thanks.

While I got your ear, I'm looking at the single axle conv. kit. It requires pressing on bearings and retainer. I was.wondering if a 6 ton a frame press would handle that. What do you think?

Shouldn't be a problem. I have even used a long pipe and a hammer when a press wasn't available.
 
Moser is the best of the 1 piece axles.
I have used a piece of 6' long pipe to set the bearing and retainer.
Set the bearing first. Then the retainer.

Jafo, I would suggest keeping a tube of an assembly lubricant handy to prevent galling especially for a press fit. There are more types available than anyone can count, but you could even use motor oil or STP.
