CJ-7 Headers give me a hotfoot!

Nothing cools off during August on the Gulf Coast, and that includes the firewall of my '80 CJ7 with 304CID where the headers come down and the mufflers snuggle up to the floorboards. Coming back from recent rides through the woods to swimming holes, passengers and I complain of hot feet, enough to be really uncomfortable.

Has anyone laid in any insulation? I am thinking about scavenging some of the hood insulation I've seen on Detroit Iron Land Yachts, and cutting to fit.
I'd be happy to hear of someone's ingenuity solving the problem before I came on watch.

The sad part is that I'm gonna kick myself in December on O-Dark-Thirty hunting forays. I run doors and windows off all year, and on the few really cold nights, the heat is welcome.

Have you considered wrapping the headers themselves and see where that leaves you?

Saw a Power Block TV last weekend. It is a special insulation just for this. I think the company is PIR. Rod

There are ceramic coatings that can be painted on for this problem. I have used a couple different ones at work for heat issues.

Lizard skin is one of the popular ceramic coatings in my research. Haven't done it myself yet.

Header wrap can help too and I found these too.

I have shorty headers and wrapped the down pipe from the collector down aways. I also found some floor insulation/ heat shield from summit Racing that I laid on the floor under the floor mats. I think that helped more than anything.

Try a sheet-metal heat shield - attached to either the exhaust itself or the floor. Leave a little air gap between the shield and what it is attached to except at small mounting points. Making your own should be pretty simple and cheap, probably will work better than wraps and junk like that.

2 inches of body lift will fix the issue permanantly ... I don't have this issue at all because my headers are lower than what you are showing.

I have the same exact problem with my CJ it gets warm down around that area not hot to the touch or anything . My thought was it will be great during the winter time that's why I'm leaving the hardtop on.
