CJ brake upgrade - NOT YJ Power Booster

I am interested in upgrading my rotors and calipers on my 80 CJ7 that currently has manual disc in front and drums in the rear.

I have plenty of links on the YJ power booster conversion but what I am wondering is if the YJ rotors and calipers will bolt up to the stock Dana 30 axle?

Has anyone done this with OEM parts? I see there are big brake kits on the market but I am looking to save some money on this upgrade if it's possible.

No they wont work, yjs have unit bearings and floating rotors like a front wheel drive car, plus the bolt pattern is different. The hub and rotor on a cj are put together as one piece, and have manual locking hubs. I really don't see how yj rotors and calipers are any better than a cj they are about the same size, the big differences in the braking power between the two is the brake booster and master cylinder.

No they will not interchange. The yj's had a different hub/spindle setup.

I don't think so, I've never heard of anybody doing that to a Dana 30 . Somebody might come along that knows better though

Also check out quadratec a look for disc brake for a Dana 30 they'll list the vehicles they came with.

Sound like you are wanting to do a lot of work, I have a 79 and did the YJ brake booster up grade and love it. It was easy and one of the best things I have done and think it was like 100 bucks.

I think you are trying to make an easy upgrade hard. The booster is your best bet then if yo udon't like it, go from there.
