Hello all my jeeping loving friends. So my CJ7 *jeep is struggling. It starts and dies about 3-4 times before he'll stay running and is ready to drive. Once running, it gurgles in gear and dies. It feels like the fuel isn't being delivered? I can barely get it to stay in 3rd gear, and I don't even dream of getting it up to 4th gear. It gurgles and shakes, losing speed, so I downshift to keep the engine running. I've been stranded more times than I can count. Once it dies, it'll take 5-10 minutes before he'll start again. It seems like it's something to do with fuel- fuel pump? fuel lines? fuel filter? Please help!!

Definitely sounds fuel related. Have you checked/replaced wither the filter or the pump? When my pump went last year, it was not getting any fuel at all, but it might be that. I am currently having issues with the filter in my 67 Impala. Rusty tank filling the filter quickly. Reacts like you are describing. A filter is a cheap swap to test out.

Carb clean? Need a rebuild?

Also, have you looked into the carb while manually hitting the throttle with your hand? Does the fuel look like a strong spay into the carb?

Yep, I'd first look at fuel filters. Easiest is the paper filter in line under the body, then the engine carb metal screen. I'd pump the throttle at the carb as mentioned above. I'd verify the gasket around air cleaner is intact and appears to seal, verify carb to mana fold seal intact, may need to remove carb for that, check that the choke plate opens fully, then verify plug and wire condition, distributor condition check, then replace the coil, don't bother checking it, just replace it. ($30), a poor coil heats up in about 10 min. It will need time to cool before it starts to work again. Ask me how I know . . .

If still not working then verify the eng driven fuel pump is putting out pressure, put a T in the line with a gauge, I'd drop the tank and verify integrity of the nylon filter mesh last. Any crud in the online filter? That might give a clue as to what or isn't.

So it's fuel, air and spark. Add some timing and it will run.

:ww::notworthy:

How's about let'n us know what engine you have?
PLZ fill out the info on your Jeep so we don't have to guess.
I would first check the ign timing. Then, start looking for vacuum leaks.
YES-replace the fuel filter.;)

Hi thanks guys!! My day off is on Wednesday and I'll check all these things. I'll get back to you all :)
