I just replaced the radiator, water pump and thermostat in my CJ7 . When traveling at long distances the temperature gauge still reads hot but when I stop to check the radiator it is not overheated. Any suggestions?

Buy a new temp gauge

What is "HOT?" Need degrees...

Checking actual coolant temp with a cooking thermometer and comparing it to your gauge reading would be a good start. Your engine could be needing back flushing if it is really running hot. The fan clutch could have issues also.

You should be use'n a 195* t'stat.
This may sound weird and bear with me............
Run a dedicated ground(GND)wire from your dash panel to the NEG(-)post of your battery.
See if the temp drops at all.
High electrical resistance(bad GND)will cause a false high temp reading. Jeep CJ's have a well known history, with this issue.
Also-Are you using a fan shroud? You really should.
You see where I live. Have the OEM cooling system and never a over-heat issue.
