Clutch - Ready, Set, GO!

Preparing to replace the clutch in my '85 CJ7 . Any info on where to buy a quality, complete clutch kit? Also, any additional things unique to the CJ7 I should be aware of before starting the replacement would be much appreciated. Thanks!!!

I beat the out of my Centerforce clutch. Make sure to have flywheel re-surfaced too.

Centerforce
They make several clutches. Three of which would work good in a CJ:

Certerforce I - Although considered an OEM replacement this clutch is more stout and has better holding power than what the factory put in.

Centerforce II - This is a heavy duty clutch and will stand up to many years of abuse. Centerforce says this clutch is "ideal for off-road and towing applications"

Centerforce DualFriction - Although I would not recommend this for your jeep I am going to mention it anyway. This is an extreme duty clutch that is popular with the hot rod groups. It can hold up to a high performance engine or extreme off-roading where you would be worried about burning up a lesser clutch.

Since you have a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l that is close to stock I would recommend a Centerforce I or a Centerforce II.

II will be my next clutch when I need to replace my oem. Also you and everybody probably know is to not use the bolt that mound the bellhouseing and Transmission together to pull the Transmission to the motor. You will screw up your pilot bushing or bearing. The Transmission and motor should slide together by wiggling and pushing on the Transmission .

I have no issues with the Centerforce clutches, but if your looking for a more affordable clutch like I was, I heard good things about LUK brand which is what NAPA re-brands for their box. I just picked up a kit last Saturday for mine. They wanted $152 but the napaonline price was $138 so they had to give it to me for that.

New throwout bearing and Pilot Bushing..............also a good time to inspect your clutch fork, the pivot ball on the bellhousing and the clutch linkage , replace any parts that are worn.
