Clutch will not let go????

Clutch will not let go????
I think all you need to do is drill and tap your jeep bellhousing.
I used to have a '82 CJ7 that I installed a Ford T-18 into.
The when I put the Transmission up against the bellhousing it obvious how they fit together but I had to drill and tap the bellhousing to bolt them together. It was easy. Now I had a T-5 Transmission (getting removed) and a '82 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l .

As for the clutch I called up the guys at Centerfoce to get what I needed. The Ford tranny had a different diameter input shaft with a different number of splines so I ended up with a friction plate intended for a Ford and a pressure plate intended for a Jeep.

EDIT: I'm confused by your last post. Are we going to a ford or a dodge tranny?

I have a dodge bellhousing mounted to a np435, that's why I was saying that I should get a ford bellhousing. I guess that the best thing to do, though, is to just try to mount it up to the jeep one? And then source the clutch and pressure plate.

No wait a second! An NP435 from a Dodge is different from one from a Jeep or any other make. And the biggest difference is usually the input shaft and bolt pattern. It is very unlikely that the Dodge input shaft length and bolt pattern will let you bolt that NP435 up to your bellhousing. I do know Ford T-18 and NP435 transmissions will mate up to your engine but I think it is safe to say you need a custom bellhousing or adapter. Call Advance Adapters or Novak about mounting this tranny in your CJ.

 OK I understand now...I thought that the transmissions were the same and the bellhousings were different to adapt them to different blocks. I didnt take in to account the input shafts and so-on. I will be giving them both a ring. Thanks buddy:notworthy:

Hay, back to your original clutch problem. It has been my experience that when a clutch acts like that it is a worn out pressure plate. The springs have lost their strength and it can no longer squeeze the clutch plate tight between pressure plate and the flywheel. its like your constantly slipping the clutch.
