Your thoughts?

In my opinion, one of the best things about a CJ is its simplicity. Along with that keeping it easy to fix on the trail and its ability to go where it does. It seems you and others like the Chrysler corp. have gotten away from that. That does make me sound like a purist though.

:agree:

but if I put that aside I like the modular concept of the 2nd one. The integrated roll bar does not do a lot for me, although the integrated "OH POOPIE!!" bar is kind of cool.

Torxhead,
Thanks for your thoughts and I agree that the beauty of the CJ is its simple nature, but every project I have ever had has had at least one touch of my own and this will be that touch.

I plan to integrate the factory dash pad, glove box, and the Jeep feel in to the new dash.

I hope this does not offend the purists, but I feel that when you put your blood, sweat, and skin in a project you gain a little artistic freedom.

Thanks again for your thoughts,
Mike

All of those are a bit over the top for me personally but the flat metal dash can be difficult to read. I imagine something close to the center piece of #5 integrated into my stock dash. Id probably have it stick out a bit further on the passenger side to angle it more toward the drivers line of site. I dont think Id put a radio or cb in it like is shown. Just some gauges and switches.

I think I will vote for #5 also. With the middle ones you would have to have someone with you if you want to shift the Transfer Case into 4WD

Yup, it could be under the hood, under the body, or on the body.

I vote for keeping your Jeep, Jeep but I’m pretty much a purist when it comes to the body in particular.

I like #5 mainly cause I have a standard. I'm always up for doing something different and may try something like this in the future

I'm for #5 also, looks like it would be the best for reading the gauges.
Is that a double D set-up?

I'm not done yet but you can kinda get the idea of what I'm doing
The kick out is going to house my gauges the lower part is housing all of my switches. And the radio is going to be between the gauges and the steering wheel.

I went back and looked at #5 because so many liked it. It's good looking but you better have $$ or good fab skills and tools. #2 is my favorite "looking" dash but even a mild flop could shift the dash and wrinkle the sheetmetal. Maybe a combonation of #2 & #5?

My Jeep has very little "CJ5 " left in her, but what is left will be along the simple, flat lines. Here are some pics of what I have purchased so far in the way of Guages and switches.

I also rebuilt a new Tuffy to hold three radios and a master kill switch (see pics). This freed up some room on the dash, no radio or speakers now.

Here is the eBay store I purchased the dash parts from:

Carburetor Intake Gasket, Bezels Dash Gauge items in Dashman's Hot Rod and Speed Parts store on eBay!

I will use the same style Stewrat Warner guages too, like what was made in the early '70s. I will use micro led indicators though. After all said and done I would call it a Vintage aircraft and rat rod medley

:chug:

i like the cb and radio in the console...im think of hanging my cb off the roof and put the radio about it, but don't quite know yet...i like my console space

That's cooler than hell.

Here the one I just pulled the trigger..

I like #5! Double D did the dash in my CJ, which I am glad I did. It sure makes seeing the gauges a lot easier. I also moved the glove box so that it would not interfere with the roll cage.
