My t20 Transfer Case in my 79 CJ7 is worn and I'd like to rebuild it. I would also like to increase the gear ratio. Any pointers as to who to go to for the parts needed for this?
I have an email into Novak, but am looking for other leads as well.

There is really no Transfer Case you can't use in your CJ7 . It depends on your budget and fab skill.
The Dana 300 will not bolt in as the mounting flange is not H (it's round), the spur gears are different and drive shafts need to be replaced among other things. Adaptors are needed for the stock Transmission or the Transmission needs to be changed.

Here is the best guide I have found with all the modifications, drive shaft lengths and needed adapters listed in the article.

Another upgrade, instead of doing a Terra Low kit, is to find a Ford Bronco Dana 20 and swap the low gear. It’s something like 2.5 : 1, which is close to the Dana 300 ’s 2.6.
I’d at least look around and see what you find, and compare/consider the options.

After going from 2.5 : 1 to 4 : 1 , I can’t imagine having to go back to 2:5 to 1 unless I had a super low 1st gear in a Transmission .

And having a lower 1st gear I cant imagine going back

So many options! :chug:
