No, the gear oil in the diff takes care of that, there are oil slingers (look like large washers) on the shaft that keep it oiled.

Thanks, When I took the axle apart, there was more mud and water in it than oil so I was unsure if it required grease or not.

Yea, that is fairly commom. I think when I got mine it had a rust stain across the ring gear as it sat so long and was full of water and 
.
When I regeared I ran my vent a lot higher in front and rear just in case I get into water situations, although not real common in AZ
