Hey all,
This will probably be one of many posts during this rebuild. I'll search as much as I can though.
So I have an 85 CJ7 with a AMC 304 , Dana 300 , and auto tranny (I think a TF999 ). Motor and tranny aren't original. Registration showed 4-cyl and I still have a clutch pedal.
Either way, my Transfer Case was leaking horribly. Pouring out gear oil around the front yoke. I was in the middle of a trip, so had no option but to keep feeling it up. When I got home, figured it would be time for a rebuild.
I bought the Novak rebuild kit, plus the twin stick kit they sell.
So this rebuild is borderline with my experience level, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I removed the drive shafts, jacked everything up, pulled the skid plate, and started to unbolt the Transfer Case . I noticed a little Transmission fluid leaking. I continued removing bolts, pulled the case out a bit, and a ton of Transmission fluid proceeded to leak all over my garage.
Obvious question, is this normal? Should I have drained the tranny first? I tried posting a pic, not sure if it worked. It appears I drained my entire tranny.
I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.
