1978 CJ7, 304 stock
I see alot of body mount kits offered for 79-86 cj7s. I have a 78 in bad need of body mounts and was wondering are the kits really that much different? I seem to have trouble finding a complete kit for my 78. Also, I have seen some rubber kits still out there, would the rubber offer a better ride than the poly kits?

I bought my Jeep with double hockey puck body mounts. Seems to work fine and I gain a little room for my 33s. Seems cheap and easy.

Good quality Canadian pucks work well, pass on the Slovakian ones, they are softer den a good Canuck Puck eh!
 
So how do you know where the kits are made? I keep finding one from Omix-Ada that is rubber. Is that one any good? My jeep is in pretty bad need of new mounts so I plan on doing this pretty quick.
 
Well the hockey pucks say on the side of them where they were made.
I need to replace my mounts as well but I will be going with polyurethane when I do. It won't break down like rubber will and is resistant to oil, fuel etc. I have seen mixed opinions on OmixAda, some swear by them, some swear at them.
Look to Energy Suspension and Prothane for polyurethane mounts.

But the pucks do work well if you want to lift the body, you just have to make your bolt sleeves to fit.
 
In terms of Poly, I've read that the only complete kit is the Daystar kit...but I can't verify they are the ONLY complete poly kit.

I went with a one inch daystar poly lift and it came with all new hardware (washers/bolts/pucks). That being said, it would be a really simple matter to run to lowes and buy some grade 8 stuff if your kit was without them.

I'm happy with the daystar kit personally. I put new prothane motor mounts (one inch over stock) in at the same time so I needed zero modifications on anything else except for my shroud. Most common things people need to mod (if at all) is the clutch linkage or tight steering...as well as the fan shroud of course.

I changed all my suspension/sway bushings at the same time and used rubber OE type stuff...the jeep feels nice and tight which is a way different feel than my 60's CJ5 's lol.

I'd be interested to know how your search goes. I tried to find quality rubber mounts "at a decent price" but that was harder than I expected so I ended up with the poly.

Note that my Jeep is an 84 so your mileage may vary...good luck with it.
