Yeah my drum brakes are o.k. but not real great and would like to stop a little better.
Is there a company that sells a complete Disc brake kit for my Jeep?

Thanks for your time!

I have seen them advertised, but have never heard of anybody installing them. When people make the leap to disk brakes they seem to go with stock factory parts. Your Jeep has a Dana -30 front axle. All you need to do is pull the parts from your steering knuckles on out and replace them with factory Dana 30 parts. It's all easier than you'd expect.

You will also need a disk brake master cylinder and perportioning valve.

I did a 4 wheel disc conversion on my 72 CJ5 , see my build thread for more information. Herm The Overdrive Guy | Shift into High Gear!.

I purchased both front and rear conversions from him. Nice guy and will help you decide which setup is best for your jeep.

Thanks for the info, I live in the middle of nowhere with 40 miles between me and any real town that would have a parts store. It is easy for me to order parts online and have them shipped.
would you know what the parts are that I need, as I don't know :dung: about disc brakes..........my truck runs drum brakes too!

I'd look for a jeep junk yard or look in Craigslist for used Dana 30 parts. I know the parts you need by sight, but to list them, probably not. IF you talk to a Jeep junk yard they will know, this is a fairly common upgrade. I got my entire or complete Dana 30 front axle for $300, but have seen them for ~$100 on CL. If you live in a rural area you might see a farm jeep just sitting that could be gotten for a song. It never hurts to try.

I checked out your total rebuilt...............Nice work!!!
Can you tell me what the Hub Centric Spacers are, will I need them when I do mine?
Sure hope my brake lines work? did you have to change them to fit the new disc applications or were they rotted and broke?

Thanks again!

I'm about 60% on my front axle replacement. I've pulled all the parts you would need, many were new, some needed cleaning up and painting. Now I need to regear the carrier. Honestly I've reached a chickening out point with the carrier regear, this is serio us stuff and I'm nervous. This weekend I'll steel myself to the sticking point and proceed.

If you were talking to me, I have no idea what "Hub Centric Spacers" are. A nice term to look up and learn. It's possible I've worked with them for years and have no idea what the proper name of them was.

Edit: Hub Centric Spacers ...... never used them on any of my vehicles.

Yeah, Ive never gone that deep yet..............knock on wood! good luck, hope that all works with no hitches but that is my luck to have every hitch in my face!

reddrig was the guy that replaced all his hub centric spacers, he will have the answer!
If I don't need them..........less $$$ to spend but , yeah, hitches!

havagoodone!

I converted my 76 CJ5 (narrow track) front from drums to disks using parts from an 84 CJ7 (wide track) axle. Bought the whole axle and stripped everything from the knuckles on out. Don't recall what I paid for the 84 axle, but it wasn't much.

I upgraded the 5 bolt hubs to Mile Marker Supremes, although there is a way to keep the 6 bolt hubs using a combination of parts. Just easier for me to go with the 5 bolts.

If you're looking for a 'package' and bigger brakes: SSBC Drum to Disc Conversion Kits for CJ7 at Morris 4x4 Center

Pricey, but it looks like everything is there.

The hub centric spacers were to accommodate my wheels so they wouldn't rub at full lock. You won't need the spacers if you go with the proper wheel tire combo.

The kits I purchased included everything. Herm will also answer the phone and provide technical help if needed. He is a very nice guy, I would by from him again.

http://www.the-jeep-guy.com for front brake conversions is an options too. I'm doing the SSBC for the rear but purchased from Summit $200 cheaper.
