drag link

drag link
Well, he said earlier that he thought the were both adjusted all the way in, and it was still pointed out. He has the narrow track axles, which is why I originally thought that he mistakenly got the wide track tie rod. Outside of that, I am stumped without seeing it. It sounds like he has covered all of the bases with it.

i know on my draglink the ends are touching each other in the sleeve. seems like if i make it longer it makes the toe move out. well im done messing with it this weeking maybe i can get back to it next weekend.

I don't see how they could be reversed the tie rod (knuckle to knuckle) should be quite a bit longer than the drag link.

The tie rod will adjust the toe, by moving both wheels at the same time. (if neither one is on the ground)
the draglink will only center your steering wheel.

when i have the tierods in the center link all the way in the pass is perfect but then the drivers side is way to much toed in. this is the part i want to take out but when i got it loose the springs where in the way. i want to get it out and make sure both tierods are turned in the same amount.

thanks for all the help guys :chug:

So yor saying that when looking at it fron the front top your tires are like this I / ?

i have them tilted in alittle on top like that. with the new sleeves i bought for caster and camber i can adjust it though. think i might need to move them more straight up and down?

I was asking about to toe. Maybe I should have just said viewed from the top, while standing in front of the jeep.

I still think there is miscommunication going on with regards to nomenclature. I'm looking at my FSM on the steering linkage and there terminology for the peice connecting the right and left knuckle is the "tie rod" and the peice that connects the steering gears piman arm to the right side knuckle is the "connecting rod"
The Connecting rod is also widely called the "drag link" by many.
Can we all agree on this? if so then we are all on the same page and can move forward.;)

Tie rod sounds right to me.
I'll go with drag link since thats what I always call it.:) don't know if I can remember to say connecting rod.

the front pass side tire is leaned in alittle on top like this / but the front of the tire is pointing out <---/ \. man i wished my camera worked lol.

Just so that we are all on the same page, i want to clarify exactly what we are dealing with. We are talking about camber, correct? The only thing that the drag link and the tie rod (thanks sasquach) affect is the toe.

toe is what im worried about. the centerlink i typed in the wrong thing in the title. im trying to adjust the bar from wheel to wheel.

ok, that is the tie rod, so have you done the chalk line, around the tire? When looking from the top, do you tire look l l, l / or l \, or anything?

My head is spinning, Sounds like you are talking tow out on the passenger wheel as well as a camber issue?
The tie rod and conecting rod/drag link will not change the camber but will change the tow in/out as pointed out.
Since camber is not adjustable on a CJ I beleive it is the tow adjustment, why are you saying the pass. side is off and not the drivers?
Unlock your steering wheel and adjust the tow as talked about by measuring your tires leading edge compaired to trailing edge and don't worry were the steering wheel ends up, you will have to turn it back and forth a bit to get both wheels looking straight ahead minus the 1/4" or so of "tow-in"
After you get that right then go about getting your steering wheel possitioned correctly with the connecting rod/drag link.
If somebody disagrees with this please let me have it.;)

If you have the tie rod adjusted as short as it will go and the wheels are still toed out than it has to be the wrong one. (to long, maybe for WT)
The drag link shouldn't have anything to do with the toe, only the steering wheel.
Can you get the tie rod adjusted anywhere close to what Sasquash said his is?

ok if i adjust it in or out both tires will move. but no matter where i move it, it looks like the pass tire is toed out more than the drivers side. lets see if this helps this is looking at the front of the jeep.

this wheel is toed out :grinjeep: this wheel is straight ahead
<----

pointing more this way

its almost like the pass side tierod that goes into the sleeve(the long bar wheel to wheel) is to long but not sure.

:D Now we are getting some where, the rod that goes from the passenger knuck to the pitman arm, is that adjusted all the way in?

Also, take measurements, cause looks like could be an optical illusion, making you think it is off.
