drag link

drag link
Is the pitman arm pointed straight back?

ok, and the tie rod, from knuckle to knuckle, is that adjusted all the way in as well?

it was but that gave it to much toe in. so i turned the sleeve about two times.

Let me ask this..If you were to disconnect the pitman arm and or drag link and put it aside for a while would you be able to use the tie rod to adjust your wheels to a neg. 1/4" tow?

Good question, we need to start here.

it looks like the pass tire is toed out more than the drivers side.
So now turn the steering wheel slightly to the left. Now the passenger tire is strait and the driver side is toed out.
Don't worry about where the steering wheel is (at least not yet). Just adjust the toe-in to 1/4"
Once that is set THEN you can adjust the connecting rod (to the gearbox).
This will straiten out the steering wheel. The connecting rod adjustment is not as important as the tie rod.

You will never drive down the road with one front tire pointing strait and the other pointing off to the side. If you have too much toe out the front tires will fight against each other and both will point outward slightly. (and your tires will wear very fast)

if i get a chance saturday ill disconnect the draglink and try the toe again

I wasn't suggesting you actually disconnect it mechanically so much as mentally although if it would help it's your call. What I was trying to get to was the fact that you need to seperate those two adjustments and focus strickly on the TIE ROD to get your toe-in set, THEN worry about your steering wheel and the drag link adjustment.
If you are unable to set your toe-in with the tie rod we need to determine if you have the wrong part.

i know what you mean. i think i might take the whole thing out make sure the tierods are turned in the same amount and go from there. im thinking i might have a tierod thats to long. will see this weekend.

well i think i got it. i took the centerlink off and turned the tierods all the way in and hooked it back up. set the toe and now im just waiting to get a chance to drive it and see what it does.

its still not right. heres a pic.

How bout a pic of each side of the tie rod connection, one left and one of the right side. make sure we can see the ball end connection on each end clearly.
This is what I want to see;

here you go

It appears your ball ends are all the way in with no thread left is that correct?
If that is true we are back to the begining of this thread and it looks like your tie rod is too long but it does not look new to me? (the tube that the ball ends are threaded into).
Recheck this info from my measurements;
Tie rod(knuckle to knuckle)..43" center to center(zirc to zirc)
tie rod tube only w/no ends 40.5"

their about a year old. when i put them on i made the new one the same length the old one was. then got doing a bunch of other stuff to the jeep and never messed with it again. i tried the 43" zirc to zirc and it still didnt look right. the tie rod was over 40" its hard the measure it by myself when the tape keeps twisting.

On a side note, did you finally get the camera fixed?

nope thats a funny story. my wife got a gift from work for being there 5 years. it one of those photo frames that shows pics off a memory card. i checked it out and saw it had a usb port. so i connected to the computer and sure enough, it let me download the pics from it.

It is a little hard to measure and my 40 1/2" is not exact but the point is you should be close to that.
Here is what I would do based on the info provided, take your tie rod off the CJ and as long as you have sufficiant thread I would cut it shorter.
You will have to make a judgement on how much but the bottom line is you have to get those wheels pointed towards each other 3/16" or so from parallel.
Don't worry about your steering wheel until AFTER you get the wheels "toed-in".

i was thinking of cutting it. maybe a 1/8" off each side.
