Ditching the egr is not exactly a good idea, since it will help keep the cumbustion chamber temps down.
 
So if I keep the EGR, what can I do so I don't need to run a line into my valve cover? Can I route that line directly into the PCV valve inlet that is currently blocked off?

The egr works from a ported vacumn source thru an egr cto switch, since the egr operation is not needed on a cold engine. There is a layout of one on a AMC 304 in the Haynes Jeep CJ manual page 6-8.
 
The EGR is a good thing that holds down the temperatures in the cylinders during combustion. The plus side is less wear and tear on the engine, less pollution, and no cost to performance. Here is a general V8 diagram.
 
Ok, I'm ok with keeping the EGR valve, can someone tell me if I still need to run the line to my valve cover. I'm installing new valve covers and don't want to drill a hole in them. Is there another location this hose can go?
 
My '75 AMC 304 didn't have any holes in the valve covers, neither does my '82 360. I don't know if that helps.
 
Would it be a problem to just plug the hose to the valve cove? I'm guessing no.
 
I pulled the EGR then tapped each hole and installed a pair of those pretty allen head pipe plugs. Problem solved. You could also splurge for an aftermarket intake with EGR delete.

Sure, just got back in town tonight and will take a picture in the morning.
 
Used two different size pipe plugs, and I'm sorry but don't remember what NPT size they were. Also, I installed both with red threadlocker. Did it with the intake on the workbench while rebuilding the AMC 304 last summer - might be tight doing it in the engine bay and remember to hit it with a shop vac to get the chips out.
