The 6 cylinder auto is .8% max CO level
All I know
The Arizona members will chime in soon with the correct answer for your AMC 304 auto.

How is SMOG testing done in Spain?
How often is it done?
Where I live in California, it is every 2 years.

I wasn't going to comment on this thread, but since I'm in Arizona, for me we test the older vehicles every year with a visual inspection for vehicles 1975 and newer. As far as numbers are concerned my CJ either passes or it doesn't.

if jeep is classed commercial it every 6 months if not every 12 months
just a gas analyser in a stationary position with engine revving at about 2000 rpm

Paulk-Are there any exceptions for older vehicles?

HH-Do you get a printout of your emissions readings on the Jeep? We do on 2000 and older vehicles.
Newer than 2000, it's 'pass' or 'fail'.

no exception what manufacture quotes is what it has to be that why I am trying find something official from jeep with these figures or us govt department

:o Sorry to say-I can't find any information on USA federal SMOG specs for your Jeep.
HH-Do you have the specs for yours?

In Colorado, the emissions limits for 1977-1980 vehicles are 1.5 ppm carbon monoxide and 400 ppm hydrocarbons, tested at the tailpipe by a stationary two-speed idle test. See Air Care Colorado :: 1981 & Older Limits.

I don't know where they got their numbers. Surprisingly, I haven't been able to find any history on what the USA EPA limits were for each model year. You might try looking at the USA EPA web site to see if they have any information or if they provide a good contact point.

I'm not sure if US car manufacturers publish(ed) model-specific emissions numbers. Their vehicles were certified to conform to the standards applicable to that model year (i.e. didn't exceed whatever the limits were for that year).

In the factory service manual for the 1980 Jeep CJ5 , there are no emissions numbers anywhere that I can find, and I would think they would be in there if they were published by AMC.
