hello all. im in central Ohio. I want to swap a 4.3 Chevy with a auto into a 79 CJ5 . this is not something I can get done in short time and I will run out of knowledge pretty quick. so... my question is??...is there anyone around somewhat locally that wants to make a few dollars and share some time and headaches helping me out on this .

4.3ltr V-6 is a great Jeep motor. I would highly recommend finding one with EFI.

thanks. I see you have a Colorado...I have a 03 zr2..great lil truck..i want to put a drivetrain similar to this in my 79 CJ7 ..fi if at all pos.:D

If possible stay way from 95 S-10 motors. Not that it isn't a good motor. I put one in my 64' M38a1. They need a $275.00 code scanner to read the codes.

FYI. The Colorado is a much better truck then the S-10. If you drive one you will see. I have the 5 cylinder motor.

Why the chevy motor? If I may ask.

If the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l is still good, you can make it TBI throttle body injected for $300-$500 depending on how much work you do yourself.
As for the automatic well there are stock Transmission but i'd look at a th350, shortest and least likely to give you drive shaft length issues.
Plus you can snag them dirt cheap.

thanks, brock., and , yes,i have thought about the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l fi...with auto... just don't know much about it!!

I'm in SW columbus and would take the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l & Transmission off of your hands if you do the swap.

I'm not at the point of doing the swap myself, but would be glad to cruise by and lend a hand when you do it.

Another idea is a 4.0 head swap. From what I've heard, a JY GM TBI setup on a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l isn't that hard.

thanks, and , yes, I will keep you in mind if I do this swap.I am around the parsons ave. and Williams rd. area. we will get together sometime!:chug:

Check the technical section and look for my useful info.
There's tons on the Chevy tbi swap. I did one on my CJ5 .
