Exhaust Manifold Compatiblity

Hello Folks,
I bought a pre-80 exhaust manifold for my '79 motor (in my '84) before i realized i'm running an '84 2bbl intake manifold.

Will it be compatible with the intake? I'm concerned with EGR fit, what are the differences if any?

Looking at a parts catalog it seems that there was a change for the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l manifolds around '83, so I would say no.

They're not compatible. The pre-1980 exhaust manifolds for 199/AMC 232 i6 /AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l L6 look like this;

They bolt directly to the intake manifold, they can be installed and removed as one piece.


The post 1980 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l L6 exhaust manifolds look like this;

The intake and the exhaust manifolds are two separate units.
