Hey guys, haven't been active in a long time but my CJ7 build is finally ramping up. I'm setting up to put in the new exhaust manifolds and piping but I have one question. When I got the AMC 304 to rebuild the exhaust manifolds were already removed and I didn't get to see the mounting hardware. I am replacing the bolts with studs but searching for hardware has brought up some belleville washer questions. The ones that go between the manifold and the bolt head or nut in my case with studs. My service manual talks about the washers for the exhaust manifold on the six cylinder but makes no mention of them for the V8 engines. Are these washers really required on my 304?

I studded the heads when I rebuilt the engine and I'm using the long brass nuts without washers. No leaks, and they work great.

I would suggest the washers due to the expansion and contraction of the metals. Use at least a grade 8 stud or bolt as softer ones will stretch. I use those brass nuts on the exhaust pipe end with good results.

Big block Mopars use cones washers, on my 360 I used grade 8 bolts and flat washers worked pretty good

I pulled a set of OEM manifolds from a AMC 304 a month or so ago to put on my 360. The bolts did have washers on them. They were either regular flat washers or split style lock washers. I'll have to look to see which ones, but it wasn't anything special. Looked to be all factory with the bolts with a hole in the end.

I should have gone out and looked before posting. I did put washers on behind the nuts.

Great. Thanks for all the reply guys. Looks like some heavy grade 8 washers is the way i’ll go since I can’t find the original ones anywhere. That makes it a lot easier. Thanks again.

If nobody gets you something sooner, I can get the measurements from the OEM bolts I pulled from a AMC 304 . Might be tomorrow night though
