Alright, I really am tired of looking at my current wheels. I am in search of some factory cj wheels. I do want them black so I imagine the rattle can will come out at some point. Question, I have found other makes with the 8 d-window looking wheel. Is this the same. I am searching CL in hopes of trading for some. Any help and thanks.

That would be incorrect from what I hear, the factory wheels have triangle holes in them and the holes have flanges stamped in them. I thought mine were factory till I saw the correct ones  here is a pic from I think Jim460 or something his are correct

Heres a good picture of stock wheels. They arent the same as the Cragar D- window but are similar. If your going to want black Id probably get the Cragers cause the finish will be alot better than what you get out of a rattle can especially for wheels. Factory were only white and chrome.

Thanks a million guys. I agree, best to find some aftermarket blacks. Saw these on CL. I love the look but never have been much on posing or faking something. Fake beadlocks are more for the mall crawlers, but gets me thinking about the green paint and black wheels to go with my tan top:rolleyes:

Or polished aluminum

Thats a different style wheel. I assume your talking the old slot ones.

I guess technically if your wheels are off a Limited they could be brown , slate blue , silver mist or arctic white. Mainly they were either white or chrome.

I found mine by posting a wanted add on CL in nearby areas and got a hit, 4 factory wheels with caps for $75, sold the caps on Ebay for $85 :D

Looks like somebody stole my tan Jeep and put Jersey plates on it...

(mine has chrome wagons and an 8274 on the front, but otherwise that could be it)

It took me almost a year to find a set of stock wheels. Not easy but what worth doing is?

The factory offered D slot aluminum rims 71-73 and aluminum sausage slots 74-79.

Also, the 80-86 chrome wagon wheel had hub mounting holes, the 76-79 did not.

Here's what I've learned about stock wheels...

Narrow track's had 15x8's with no holes for caps
Wide track's had 15x7's, and some had holes for caps

They're not as hard to find as you might think, they're just not advertised often. Many Jeep yards have plenty for sale. Last one I bought was $50 in original white with surface rust condition.

Well, first I need to thank everyone for the information. Secondly, I plan on running 33x12.5 as thats what I have already. So 15x8 would probably be as narrow as I would want to go? When I get the funds to remove the monster body lift and switch to a suspension lift I may go up to a 34.5 or 35x 12.5 or even possibly a 10.5" wide tire. I don't fancy chrome on my jeep and don't really like the tires protruding even is stability is improved. To each is their own though. Finding a super good deal as sasquatch did would definitely entice me to rattle can those babies black and never look back:D

1981 had 15x8's that were drilled for caps. Not easy to find, but they're out there.

I mounted some 33x12.50's on 15x7" wheels. I didn't have any problems with them at all. I wouldn't run them aired down on a rim that narrow, but if you don't air down I don't think you'll have any problems.

A word on rattle can paint on wheels. First off I'm not generally against rattle can paint. You've got to be a little carefull painting wheels. Frequently they powder coat the wheels or use a paint that ratle can paint has difficulty sticking to. So to do a really decent job you need to sand blast (or use what ever media is popular) then paint. Cheap wheels can become pricey. Craiger wheels are cheap enough at ~$60 each to deserve serious consideration.

I had mine completely sandblasted, then painted them with a spray can, now waiting to do the pinstripe, then going to hit them with lacquer...THEN...the Destination MT's... ;-)
