Just starting to look at fiberglass tubs, and would like some opinions as to what you guys like or dislike. It's a 86 CJ7 that will pretty much remain on the road. Shellvalley seemed to be a little high with their price. 4WD Hdw seemed pretty reasonable.
Thanks in advance Chris

You really have to shop around and ask questions, alot of companies offer different grades of bodies. I gor mine from AJ's and love it,(rated as an off road body) but they are no longer in bussness.
I've heard of a lot of bad (cheap) bodies out there. The two companies you mention both have a pretty good reputation.

I have a 4wd hardware body that the previous owner installed and it seems like it is really well built. I have not found any cracks and the body mounts have not pushed up from the bottom. While I was shopping for a jeep I found one with very large cracks and the body mounts had pushed up thru the bottom of the body about 1".

I noticed in Google shopping that Oconees is selling CJ7 tubs for about $1595 with a best offer option but of course they are in friggin' GA. I would be willing to drive couple hundred miles to avoid shipping costs. Don't know what brand it is though.

I have a Shell valley body I bought in 1993 for my CJ5 and It still looks good. I have no stress cracking at all and the paint is 15 years old. Shell Valley makes nicer tubs now so I feel you cannot go wrong with them.

I also just bought a Kentrol body for my CJ8 used but never installed. Their prices are very high but the quality is very good. They have metal plates in all the body mounting areaa so you can drill and tap them for the body bolts. Plus its a good reinforcement for stregth. Also the firewall is reinforced by on the driver side for the hardware. The Hood and front fenders are very thick and strong plus they have nutserts in the all the mounting areas. I am happy with it but I have not installed the body yet or have a long term opinion.

My 4WD Hardware tub has been great, after an abusive six years, it still has no cracks or problems. It's on an 86 CJ.

subscribing..

Looking at a CJ5 that is apparently all fiberglass...not sure if I want that. Guess the guy used it as a sand racer but Im thinking that may be a lot of trouble on the trails.

I'd check it out real good, he probally got the lighest one he could if it was for a sand racer. Might not be what you want to bounce off trees with.

Ya thats what Im thinking.

Im gonna whore this post up a little...

also looking at a jeep with a spring over and 35s. Ive seen some posts about people half assing them but is there anyway to lower it a little without going back to sua?

I have the 4WH heavy duty double wall fiberglass tub, and I love it.

It's been on for about 10 years now with no troubles. I've even had my Jeep on it's side while wheeling without cracking it. It is a very well built tub in my opinion. The only thing that would have made it better, is if it had the nutserts like the Kentrol one.

Good info...is the Kentrol the best setup?

Any other names that are good or bad that I need to be aware of.

Going to look at a full fiberglass cj this week. Was leaning against it but after realizing that I do live in a desert and that there are no wooded trails around me...a high quality fiberglass body won't bother me.

Going to look at this glass body jeep and the current owner bought it that way so he doesnt know the brand.

Is there names, tags, serial numbers, or any identifying marks so I can tell what brand all the parts are? Im guessing the knock off :dung: won't have any.
