so i am nearing the finish line on my 86 CJ7 restoration and working out the last little bits and pieces. i reinstalled the hardtop and doors this weekend and went for a ride and found i had a lot of heat inside the cabin, much more than i remembered from last year. after a few minutes of scratching my head i noticed that i had not installed my Transmission shifter boot on the floor, it was just the open hole, and heat was POURING in from that location with the windows cracked.
i am debating not installing it and running that way for the winter to actually have heat inside the jeep. the only downside is that i won't have any way to regulate the heat, it's either an open hole or nothing. it got me thinking that maybe i would look for some form of a vent and cut a hole in the shifter cover plate to be able to regulate the heat/airflow allowed into the cabin.
