Body Firewall Hole

Anyone know what this hole was for? It was covered with tape on my Jeep.



I found a fairly good firewall diagram, but it's unlabeled.

It's for a clutch master cylinder if your CJ had an original hydraulic clutch system. Looks like yours did but was converted to a manual system or someone put a hydraulic system on it at one time.
It was used on factory AMC 150 cid four cylinder CJs. What does your VIN say for your factory engine? Has it been swapped? (Link)-> CJ VIN Decoder -<

Ah, thanks for that.

Someone must have tried a hydraulic clutch at some point since mine is a C-engine AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l .

I suppose the other possibility is that it's not the original tub tub.

that’d be a great place to run wires! Is that grommet specially made for that punch out, or is it a similar size to a commone grommet?

It is designed to be punched out.

Yup. The punch out hasn’t been removed on my jeep. That grommet just looked perfectly sized for the hole.
