Fuel & Emission Questions - '83 CJ7 258
I just purchased an '83 CJ7 (AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l 4 spd) that had been sitting for a few years. I am a noobie to Jeeps but I have been wrenching on various other vehicles for some time. The PO made some "adjustments" to the fuel & emission systems and I am trying to sort out what he did and how to correct it since the Jeep runs but will not idle and just generally runs rough. I have attached a file (I hope) that shows highlighted in orange what has been removed. The two hoses that connect the air cleaner to the selonoids on the fire wall that were removed have had both ends (selonoids & air cleaner) plugged. The PVC "Air In" on the valve cover is just open to the air and not connected to the air cleaner. There is a vacuum line that comes from around the carb up and under to the the driver fender side that was not connected to anything (plugged it for now). There is a sensor (O2 ?)screwed into the exhaust manifold just above where the exhaust attaches that is not plugged into anything. The hose from the cannister to the "Can Purge" is also disconnected and plugged with a bolt. The is a vent connection on top of the carb bowl that is not connected to anything. I guess my questions are, from this info can you tell me what they were trying to accomplish or this just some sort of not thought out hack job? Also any thoughts on how best to correct this? I have read some posts talking about "nuttering", is that a viable option? It seems like it would be difficult to go back to the stock setup. If it helps I am in TX and the Jeep is not subject to emission testing. Thanks for any feedback...
