full width 1-tons on a CJ7

full width 1-tons on a CJ7
I used the standard pitman arm. Not a drop, that leaves the drag link & the tie rod real close to parallel.

i was thinkin about using the stock pitman arm and one ton tie rod ends and just reeming the pitman for the tie rod. thanks for the help.

i may be using wrong terminology. so i took your pic that showed what im talkin about and circled it. im planning on redrilling the pitman arm to accept the larger tie rod end. im just curious if this is what you had done or if theres a simpler way.

Yes, I reamed the standard pitman arm out to accept a chevy one ton tie rod end.

As far as I know that's the only way to do it. Sam's Off Road has a beefier flat pitman arm. I don't know if they offer one with a larger hole.

i was thinkin that was about the only way to do it. i really appreciate the help. and sorry i hijacked this thread. thanks again.

Just as an update, I am removing the 1-ton axles this weekend and have decided to do a 4-link 1/4 ellliptacle for the rear suspension. I am going to cut up the springs ont he 1-ton truck to make the new half springs. I'll start posting pic's of the build as soon as I get into the actual build.

Sounds cooool! Can't wait to see what you come up with.

thank you for the wms to wms on stock wide track CJ7 .but im still wondering how wide i can go for street legal. Is it as long as i can cover them with fender flares? On another note I'm also going with the highsteer system using flat top GM knuckles out coversion, on my Dana 44 .And in the near future disc brakes on my 9".

It varies from state to state. In Texas, It pretty much any thing goes. Up north like you are I imagine a lot more rules.

I live in Central California and it is pretty open here. Worse case is having to install some quick release mud flaps on the back tires. I plan on installing a small reciever underneath the body so I can just slip some mud flaps on when anything is questioned and remove when on the trail.

That's why alot of people like to run Hummer rims, because their offset helps narrow the track.

whats with the drop steering box ? better geometry? what lift on suspension do you need this, and is it strong?
What drop? That is the factory location. The point of the picture was to show the heavy duty bracket from M.O.R.E..

Well, an update on my full width axles. I have a ford 9" that I am building now and a Dana 44 all from the same Bronco. I decided to go with a 1/4 ellipticle suspension in the rear only becuase it will be different that what is normally on the trail around here. I'll start all the cutting and fabrication on the CJ7 this winter. Right now we have a lot of wheeling events and I can't take the jeep down for more than a couple weeks at atime.

I'll post some photos and spec's as I begin the build. This is going to be a lot of fun.
