In a frame off rebuild for a long time...
Just thinking out loud here...
I have in my possession a number of used transfer cases.
I could leave them as is, but I thought it would be a decent way to make a buck or two if I rebuilt them before selling. Got the idea when I talked to the local Transmission shops about rebuilding an auto Transmission in my DD, and they mentioned that nobody local will rebuild a manual Transmission . anymore.
So what is everyone paying for a rebuilt Transfer Case ? I have about 6 Dana 20s, a Dana 300 , and a YJ 231 in the shop right now. I also have a few transmissions that may go under the knife if this works out.
I looked at Novak's kits and it looks like they are getting around $240 for a Dana 20 and $280 for a Dana 300 .

:chug:

this sounds like a plan:D

Most true 4x4 shops will rebuild a manual Transmission or Transfer Case . I can drive 20 minutes from my house and have at least two options for both and that’s without crossing the bridge into Portland, OR where I know of several more. When it comes to price a lot depends upon what the box you’re talking about. For example a Spicer 18 runs around $400 with a Spice/Dana 20 or 300 ranging from $500 to $750, give or take. Transmissions will vary the most with a T-150 about $500 to a T-18 closer to $1100. All of these prices will be will be plus exchange or a core charge of $100 or so, again depending upon what it is you have.

To me it looks like a lot depends upon what parts each case needs…

Saddle Tramp, thanks for the info...
I am familiar with your neck of the woods. As a matter of fact, My CJ came from Vancouver! I used to live in Kelso, about 40 minutes north of you on I-5. Had a warehouse in Hazel Dell we worked at for a number of years.
Unfortunately life took us to OK, and the shops here can barely fix an auto Transmission (had 2 rebuilt at 2 different shops at $1700 a pop, and neither one works correctly). I may rebuild a couple of these and see how it goes, as I have all the equipment. Just have to raise the $$ for the rebuild on something I'm not going to "need" at the moment. Unemployment sucks!
