I am having a problem finding a good carb guy to fix\rebuild my carb. Anybody with some suggestions?

hesitates on load, worse when cold a little better when warm.

I love rebuilding carbs. They are not really that hard to do. It helps to have an air compressor to blow it dry and clean out the passages. I rebuilt my carb and it runs like a sewing machine.

rebuilding a carb is really a walk in the park. It just takes a little research and a little carb cleaner.:D

humm, well I guess I could try it. I can rebuild an engine but carbs are so dang sensitive on settings that I figure I would let the pros do it.

I hope so. They're predicting a snowstorm this weekend, so I pulled my CJ5 's Carter to rebuild if I'm stuck indoors. The kit has been sitting behind the TV for a few weeks now. Won't be using carb cleaner--may have to see how dishwashing detergent and/or nail polish remover works.

I heard the Carter is not easy to rebuild.

There used to be a shop in Portland that only did carburetors (I think they were call Carburetor Specialties) that was as good as you could get but with the switch to fuel injection they have gone the way of the Dodo bird. Various shops still rebuild them in Portland but it is not their specialty. It is my understanding that Holley is the prime carburetor rebuilder in the US today, regardless of brand, so either you pay the money for a rebuilt one at the parts house or do it yourself.

Take the carb apart and soak it in mineral spirits. Brush it as clean as you can all the pieces. Set the pieces aside as you clean them. For stubborn stuff spray with carb cleaner. Gather all the parts. Lay down fresh clean rags down on your dining room table. Sort the parts out on the fresh clean rags. Mix a good stiff drink/open a beer. Detail the carb like your gonna eat off it. reassmble in reverse order of disassembly. Oh and mix another stiff drink/open another beer. When finished admire your work. :) See, carbs are easy to work on!

Oh! :) And you are supposed to have a few parts left over right?

It’s also not a bad idea to use a low sided box to rebuild the carb in so when (not if) you drop a small part it lands in the box and not the floor.
