No Jeep, yet. Looking for CJ5 or CJ7.
I have a smooth running Chevy 350 engine in a 1975 two wheel drive Silverado pickup. I want to transplant the engine and TH350 Transmission into a CJ5 or CJ7 . I read somewhere that disc brakes started on the 1977 to 1979 CJ5 which I prefer given the traffic around here. What are the best CJ models for this swap? Where is a good source to purchase CJ's? Where can I find good tutorials for the swap?

Thanks!

most people buy an engine for the Jeep, not a Jeep for the engine.:D

Gotta respect a man that doesn't try to hide his priorities. :)

You can find CJs on listed on Craigslist, carsforsale.com and ebay; maybe even some local online publications.

Sometimes they're listed on the cork boards at grocery stores or community centers. Sometimes people find 'em just driving around. Around here, they're sometimes listed in the Sunday paper's classified ads.

Nice Chevy engines generally go in nice Chevy trucks ...... Sorry, had to say that.

The type of vehicles we generally deal with around here are CJ5 's (short for automatic Transmission , drive shafts), CJ7 longer and will work for your application, CJ6 & CJ8 long versions that can take about anything you want to drop in.

I've had an itch lately for a Willy's wagon. If I had a Willy's Wagon I'd drop in a Chevy V8 and an automatic and I'd look at adding the axles from your pick up. I'd never do that with a CJ, but there's something about a wagon that frees me from the need to keep things stock. Similarly a Jeepster can be an interesting build.
