Hazard knob 1982 CJ-7

I bought the appropriate hazard knob for my steering column mounted hazard rod, or so I thought! I have a small metal rod that has a textured end, but nothing else. The P.O. Didn't have a hazard switch knob attached. What am I missing? There is nothing for my knob to screw into? I want it to be functional. It's an original OEM steering column and I want it to stay that way. What am I missing?

The little knob came off in my hand once, I just used some Superglue to put it back on, that was 6 or 7 years ago, it's still there.

The issue seems to be the new knob doesn't really fit. It is too large in diameter. I would have wrap the arm in something to get it to stay on. Then if I push it in (the "on" position) it will most likely just pull right off. I think I'm missing something on the end of the arm where it's textured. Do you have any pics of yours?

It does, but the rod coming out from the column is pretty my a straight point. That's why I think I missing some sort of part the slides over that rod

Cut the right length of aluminum or brass tubing (Hobby Lobby or similar store) that will slide into the knob but over the rod. Expoxy the sleeve onto the rod. When the epoxy is cured, do the same for the knob.

I could live without epoxy and a Dremel, but it would definitely primitive existence!

I want to get it back as close to stock as I can. I wonder if this piece I have in my column screws out or if I have to take the whole damn column apart?

looking at the new knob pictured above,I would say that the splined piece that is sticking out of yours was the inside piece that the plastic knob was attached to..I bet that splined piece will screw out of the column and then the new knob will screw in its place,without disassembling anything

Yep, grab that part on yours with some pliers and it just unscrews.

looks like to me that if you have the proper knob you could use something like JB KWIK and put the new knob onto the old spline..be worth a try..if you are worried about it gluing to the column then screw the spline out with a pair of pliers,glue it and then reinstall

JB KWIK won't care..just figure out a way to center it or you could just hold it.just mix enough so it will fill the entire space.JB WELD takes a long time to set up but JB KWIK only takes 5 minutes..as with anything,read the instructions

Well, if it doesn't work, you're no worse off than you are now!

OEM knobs can be found, but they aren't common. I'd ask around in the WTB sections on Jeep forums or check your local CL for someone parting out a CJ.
