Hey so I need some help identifying a random lost ground wire. It's on the firewall drivers side by the wire junction. It literally sits right next to the ID plate.

Original wiring harness and I need to sort out all the rotted out ground wires and where they live. I just want to get everything buttoned up as close to kinda sorta original as possible. Thanks for the help.

Solution
That is an old leftover unnecessary wire added by the PO. Probably for a marker light ground issue fix to supplement the fender ground. It is not stock.
I would be more concerned about the 12v feed wire with no grommet though.

That no grommet wire you circled is how they rewired the horn. That's on the list of fixes. I know I've seen this ground wire in other pictures of the firewall so I was hoping someone could trace where it goes. I know that grounds are Gods when it comes to the CJ so I want to get it right.

I am glad that horn wire is on the fix list.
As you stated, CJs are ground loop demons... Someone added that ground wire but just added another ground loop into the system. It is not stock or needed. That is not a factory ground wire.

My stock 81 had the same wire. It was the ground wire for the windshield washer motor
:wtf: hmm, his is going to a fender bolt. Must have been moved. Do you have a pic?

One to the washer pump, other two for the Fog light harness. His was probably moved to the fender bolt because the horn stopped working. The ground on the driver fender is often bad
