Ok, for those who don't know me, I just finished restoring my 77 CJ7 . It's got a AMC 304 with a 4 spd. Holley 2 barrel carb. The carb came with the cj and PO said that he rebuilt it but I had to tune it to get it to run right and it will do for now but I know that I need to replace it in the near future.

Anyways, it runs pretty good until I pump gas and fill it up. Then it hesitates and cuts off on me non stop. I have to start it while moving and keep revving up the motor or it dies. It's done it to me all 3 times that I have pumped gas now since the restore. Does anyone know what it could be or has this happened to anyone?

Thanks,
Storm.

I'm thinking it has to do with your tank vent. Maybe when your pumping the gas in, the gas is "siphoning" up to the carb, causing it to flood unless you keep on the throttle. The bowl vent from the carb should go to a charcoal canister, make sure that hose is free of obstructions. Likewise with the fuel tank vent hose, and the hose that goes from the tank to the charcoal canister.

Well, I just cranked it up and it runs fine after sitting for 2 hours and cooling down I guess. I don't have a charcoal canister and it didn't come with one. Do I really need to install one? I have a vent hose from the top of the tank to the top of the filler hose. As far as the carb, it just goes to a return line that goes back to the tank.
