Looks like a relay hooked directly into the battery power cable. Scary, but I bet it works.
 
Sorry, not the best angle- the cable that goes between the battery and solenoid runs underneath the relay, it isn't connected to it. Right now there is nothing hooked up to it.

It's still a relay attached or not. It could have been for almost anything including the horn. A relay is actually not a Ducks of Hazard type fix, it's actually the right way to add a poser hungry item like a horn or additional lights.
 
Yes, I know it is a relay - just wondered if it is OEM - I meant that maybe they hooked up a dukes of hazard type horn - poor attempt at humor.
 
It looks OEM to me. Same bolts as your solenoid etc.
Don't know what it would be for.

Yeah, I've been going through the wiring diagram in my Haynes manual, but haven't found anything yet.
