How hard is it to rebuild one of these things?

How hard is it to rebuild one of these things?
Well, I got the motor apart and the shaft was seized into the bushing on the back of the casing. Got it freed up and cleaned and it looks like it should be salvageable. The windings, contact surfaces, and brushes all had corrosion but minimal wear so I may get away with cleaning it up and sticking it back together. It looks like this thing did not see heavy use and probably got dunked in the ocean or something and not cleaned and then sat for a long time. I want to try to make my own remote so now I am hunting for a two pole momentary switch and a three prong connector that will work for me.
Hopefully I will have it back together this week- My buddy has some palm tree stumps that need pulling in his yard that would be a perfect field test for this thing.:D

Thanks for all the help and input everyone,

Bush

ah you'll like my remote. its the factory warn remote from 1983 but, at some point the connector was damaged and someone engineered a new one using an old extension cord male and female connectors. i plan on fixin that before i trade it off. it'll be totally restored although it works right now i even got the motor working good, but i'm still gonna put a new one on it or have the old one rebuilt. don't wanna trade off a piece of junk.

A friend replaced his when it got damaged with one of those 220v twist lock type plugs on the winch and remote. Seems to work ok.

I would think one of those trailer light plugs would replace the missing male and female and remount on the winch to look just like it did when it was new. I think it will have a couple of extra pins but what the heck. A momentary spdt switch in a rain tight box with about 15' of 18 three w/ground.

Ya, the original female has space for 5 pins and only uses 3, so the trailer plug sounds good. What kind of lube do you suggest for both the gears and the motor? Also, should I buy a seal kit or would some ultra copper be good enough to seal up the cases?
Thanks for the info,
Bush

Found out the ford solenoids won't work, you need continuous duty solenoids or they will fry. Closest thing I can find locally (and cheap) are golf cart solenoids, but they are 36 volt. Any Idea if 12 volts will still trip a 36 volt solenoid? I can get em' cheap from a golf cart repair guy I know and other than being overkill, if they work, I'll use em'.

Thanks,

Bush

Have you checked the ones you have to see if they are toast?

For lube I'd use a marine type for the gears, check a local boat store for trolling motor grease for the motor itself.

When I talked to warn all they told me was use a high temp grease.

sounds like marine(boat trailer) wheel bearing grease will be suitable.
