Hi , I am doing my brakes and wheel bearings and I got to the point of taking the front hub off and it appears that there is a round piece with holes in it in front of the hub nut. Is this something that is removeable with a spanner wrench ? Is this a standard piece ? I have not seen it before so just thought I would ask prior to proceeding.
Thank you for all input.

Yeah its a snap ring - snap ring pliers are helpful in removing them

No I already removed the snap rings, this is a threaded collar that threads onto the spindle like a retainer. It has three hex keyed inserts in it. It is about a quarter inch thick.

Do you have lock-o-matic hubs ?
Clean it real well.
You will need a small allen wrench to remove those small screws.
