That is really Tempting I kinda want to do that now but I am not sure if I want to relocate the Fuse panel

I RTV'd the out of mine on my TJ, it quit leaking. It would be a whole lot easier to do the same on a CJ. You also have to keep them clean, or it backs up and overflows on the top side and down through.

They can also be made to go thru the hood and not thru the cowl. Choice is yours.

I have to admit, I like it better than a "snorkel", but cutting huge holes in my CJ would be a very difficult thing to do. The hood would be better than the cowl, I think.

The problem I see with the hood, is that if defeats the purpose of moving the vent up that high.

Moving the intake up to the cowl allows for greater water fording capability, as well as less trail dust and pulling cooler air in. With running it through the hood, you would not be able to seal the joint very well. If I am wrong, please tell me. But personally, I love this mod, and will be putting it onto the cowl.

On the hummers, if I remember correctly, they can take up 36" of water stock, and with this little mod, up to 54".

I like the idea of more fresh air, that is good.In fact it is terrific!
As far as the Under water capabilities of the vehicle, once again I must ask, where is the distributer while all this water in going over the top of the hood?
That is what I do not understand about the whole "snorkel" concept.

I have seen where they put an air line to the dist, which pressurizes it, keeping the water out. Someone on here had written about it, too tired to go searching, but it is a good water proofing system.

I have heard of guys with on board air pressurizing the dist, and the axles, TC and tranny too. I think the fresh air intake would be worth the work but the chances I would try to drive across the Red river are pretty slim.
I think I will stick with the bigger hat box and filter idea and pull fresh air from the two holes on the sides of the radiator.
I will say, it looks cool.

yeah I wouldnt mind a snorkel but it would just be for looks... i have carpet in both my rigs and (especially in the GW which has electric seats) I dont want to flood the floor of either of my jeeps, although I did herculine both of them... but come on Oreillys has the kits on sale for 49 bucks right now!

You don't have to be crossing deep water for this to be effective. It will keep you from getting mud and water into your intake as well. It all depends on the terrain you see on a regular basis with your rig.

Also the engine can only pull so much air so after a certain amount of tubing you are having a detrimental affect on your engine.

I do want to do this though.... not for water clearence because, as stated, the diz limits you. but just for the fresh air. any one know why the pass side of the cowl is no good?

There is no room under the cowl on the passenger side. The heater box is in the way.
