So I’ve never torn apart or rebuilt a Transmission before but upon taking off the top cover and inspecting I see the gears look bad. Pretty safe to say?

What tranny?
If that is a non-synco first or reverse gear. That ain't to bad.
What I don't understand, is the rust on the gears.

It’s a T-18 three speed. Rust is probably because it has been off the Jeep for a while. And it gets really humid hear in south Florida.

Not really sure what gears they are. I don’t really know to much about transmissions

T-18 is a 4 speed. The gears really don't look all that bad. If I'm looking at it correctly, the small gear is the reverse idler gear, and the large one is low gear. I've had T-18 's that look about the same, and they work just fine.
