After sitting on the fence for a while and thinking about buying a 360 I made the plunge and bought one today. It's out of 1973 Javelin, so I believe it has the high flow dog leg heads. I was going to rebuild my AMC 304 , but I thought this would be a better way to go.

Cheers, Brian :chug:

Gert what have you done to your drive train? For the 360 swap from my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l I plan on one piece axle swap 355 gears from 273 and swapping in my T-176 four speed to replace my weak T-5 and Tom Woods Driveshafts. I am going to build this engine to run pump gas and probably a Edelbrock Performance package, cam, lifter, timing chain, intake, carb. 1000 rpm to 5500 rpm would be good. It's going to be mostly for the street and a bit of trails. If it runs really good on the street, I will take it to the drag strip and see what it will do in the 1/4 mile. My brothers CJ5 with a 327 Chevy took down a few cars on the street and strip.

I did the one peice axle conversion, lock right locker and a centerforce gold clutch. :chug: I ran out of driveshafts so when I finish restoring my jeep it will have a traction bar for the axle wrap. The 360 has lots of torque to break stuff so I to will have the Tom Woods driveshaft with a cv joint and a 32 spline output on my Transfer Case :chug: I am also doing a Dana 44 conversion on the front since I have a lead foot:) Really a traction bar would be the only thing I would reccomend beyond what you have mentioned happy jeeping

I have a second thought on this....really all you need is what your looking to do to yours and a traction bar so you dont pop the rear driveshaft. I am going several steps beyond this with a narrowed Dana 44 font and a narrowed Dode 9.25 rear(got a great deal for them) NV3550 and 32 spline outputs on my Dana 300 Transfer Case and 1310 u joints front and rear. I dont think you need to go as far as me just depends on how hard you drive it.

You know I have an amc v8 aluminum intake (Holley Street DOminator) That is practically brand new that I am not going to use....... I found a custom set up for a 360 that came with an intake modded to accept fuel rails so I am fuel injecting my Grand Wagoneer as my next project.

Very Cool :). Have you thought about putting a 360 in your CJ?

I think the one piece axles, and stronger Transmission T-176 should work. I blew up my two piece axles with my AMC 304 that was mildly done, I guess it was the weak link, I had a T-18 Transmission in that one. I am going to build it mildly because they go pretty good in stock form, I just want a bit of a cam and a few goodies.

No I don't really want to. Besides I just spent alot of time intalling the 4.0 head and injection on the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l so i am going to stick with it. I was just shamelessly trying to get someone interested in that extra intake I have sitting in my basement. I need the cash and need to get rid of it anyway since I wont be using it....:D

I am sure if you post it on Craigslist someone will buy your 360 intake. I have a Edlebrock one for mine and I live in British Columbia, Canada. I love how the torque in my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , but it doesn't have enough top end for me, compared to my old AMC 304 V-8. I think the 360 will give me plenty of top end power.

For sure. I don't really feel the need for more top end on my cj. The 360 in my waggy gets 14-15 MPG HWY and my specs are Motorcraft BBD carb, EBay HEI, Contour Elec Fan, Bosch 4+ plugs, TF727 with shift kit, NP229 TC, and AMC20 W/T rear (The FSJ version of course) and Dana 44 W/T w/lockable hubs front 3.31 gears, 33" A/T tires. Hepoefully in the Cj you can do better with mileage since you weigh like half of my Wag.

I haven't pushed it too much yet but I have ran 80-84. I was perfectly content not going faster than that but My motor felt like it had alot to spare. So I would imagine you are going to gain lots and lots of top end:chug:

Well it is quite interesting having a 360 in a CJ, I didn't put mine in, she kinda came to me this way. I just got done rebuilding the complete top end, with a Crower cam . Haven't fired her up yet, but I did run her a little before and al I can say is light on the go pedal . . .
