I know these aren't highly desirable, so I know there are lots of these sitting in shops, garages, storage sheds, etc. Since I am just getting started on a project Jeep, and the SR4 I took out is trashed, I need a quick fix, and a T-5 is just the answer.

If I could find one that was married up to a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l and the Dana 300 , I would be in business. Ideally, one that is used but working, but not a big deal if it needs a minor rebuild (i.e. no busted gears or case).

I would try for a T-176 . They are as common and A LOT stronger.

If I knew I could find a T-176 set up (Transmission , bellhousing, drive shafts, Transmission mount & tunnel cover) relatively quickly, then I would consider it.

I figured my quickest/cheapest option would be to find a working T-5 that can be directly swapped with what I already have. I could get the Jeep moving and then be on the lookout for a T-176 for a future swap. Since dropping the Transmission is relatively quick and easy, this could be a good Saturday project.

So, I guess if I am lucky enough to find a T-176 setup first, I would be interested in that as well.

Thanks for the craigslist post. I had planned to search on there tonight. While I would hate to put one of those back in, if it would get me rolling for $100, that might just buy me some time to find and rebuild the right Transmission .

is this your daily driver? If there was no rush i'd keep looking for a T-176 tranny.

If you are near south Houston anytime soon. Jeff at Mack's standard Transmission said he had a rebuilt T-5 sitting on the shelf. (713) 738-1555

It is not my daily driver, even more so, I have not driven it. That's one reason I was looking for a cheap fix for now. I need to get it moving to see what other unknowns I might find. I figured if I could find one for $100 or so it would get me rolling, even if for a few weeks, and that would be worth the cost.

However, thanks to a forum member, I may have found a T-176 . I don't have it in my hands yet, but my fingers are crossed.
