I would go with using the color. The plugs should put you in the correct location though. If you are replacing the original icm that would be great. BTW, just how did it run just prior to replacement?

Those AZ, ICMs do not have a good rep. Might want to try NAPA and ask for their top of line.

The CJ did not have a plug end on it. Who ever wired it before I got my hands on it did away with the plug ends.
So here is the long story of my issue. I installed the new ICM (hooked up by color) and a new ignition switch. When I was removing the switch, two wires came off and I cant identify where they belong. I can place them on random posts and get it turns over and fire up right away. Downside, the starter wont disengage until i remove the one wire. So I want to believe that it has something to do with the ICM being wired wrong. I think my solution may be to install a push button start in the one wire. That would allow it to disconnect for say. Does that make sense and seem like a solution?

It would run fine then while driving, it would shut down. Popped the clutch and it still wouldnt fire (It has a new Solenoid and coil). I would try to restart it and it would fire as i released the key. When I got it home, i got it running, tapped the ICM and it would die again. I did this 3 times to make sure that was what was causing it to die.

I think a good soldered connection, instead of a plug in is a better way to go anyway. On this page,https://www.jeep-cj.com/forums/f2/no-spark-fuel-during-engine-crank-27500/index6.html, in post #59, is the way to wire an icm.

Looks like I figured it out, or at least a solution. There appears to be a slight difference in the wiring of the ICM. When I hooked up the starter wire, it would remain engaged until i pulled the wire off. Took the test light to it, and couldnt find a post that was only hot when the key is turned to the start position. After a few hours, i put a push button start into the CJ. Problem solved! Thanks for everyone's help.
