ID help with this carb please

I have no idea what this is (other than it is a carburetor).



I hope it still works after I go back together with the engine; but if it doesn't, I guess a little homework will at least show me where to find replacement options or parts. As long as the members can tell me what it is. There is no tag on it and the flat-head screws that hold it all together have been stripped by someone in the past so I'm guessing it is like an actor and has had work done.:dunno:

Also, what is the point of the flaper in the exhaust manifold being connected to the accelerator?

Looks like the stock Carter BBD carb to me. And I think you are talking about the EGR.

I would replace t with a 2100.. They are cheap, easy to rebuild and work a ton better. The hardest The swap is getting the adapter plate for em. If any one has done the swap already and used the mr.gasket adapter next time you rebuild the carb throw out the mr gasket and order one of these.



$45.00 shipped it came with the bolts, bottom gasket and gasket for the 2100 that seals off all the open holes on the bottom. This thing is solid and fits like a glove.





Here's what the mr.gasket 1937 looks like. See how it's not square in the back? That causes all kinds of hell with leaks.

Yep it looks just like my carb. I have an 81 CJ7 with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . I rebuilt mine and it runs fine

With out the tag it is a bit more difficult to get your average parts counter person to turn loose of a kit for it.

As I have said a number of times, the Carter is not really a bad carb, but the MC2100 is a lot better. Find a decent one in a grave yard, put a kit in it, buy an adapter. build a linkage, and the cost compared to a new/rebuilt Carter is pretty much a wash. And you get to brag, casually,about rebuilding the carb on your Jeep.

When I took the carb off the intake manifold to get it and the exhaust manifold cleaned up i noticed a few things...

The EGR is pretty much not going to work. This determination was made because the springs are gone, rotted off. The vacuum looking thing that connects the intake and exhaust manifolds was plugged solid with burnt oil and carbon build up. What is this for anyway?

Friendly reminder, this engine was fully functional other than the horrible oil leaks. I just don't know how much of this stuff I NEED to replace if it obviously wasn't working before...
