Idle speed - Carb.

Idle speed - Carb.
I originally used the PVC nipple to try to actively purge the canister in attempt to eliminate an under the hood gas smell. Since then the smell has been found and repaired (a slightly loose fuel line at the carb. It took about 1/4 turn to eliminate it.). One more nagging problem eliminated.

Did you check ALL of your hose clamps?
Never found just 1 that need'd to be tighten'd down. I would also ck the lines at the fuel tank--

The leak wasn't at a hose clamp ..... they were checked before finding the gas seep, it could hardly be called a leak more like gas sweat ..... the last foot or so of gas line before the carb. is steel. The fitting needed a little tightening. I did remove it and cleaned up the seating surface. A little cleaning, a little Teflon tape and the gas wetness went away along with the pesky fuel smell. I'm sure glad it's gone, locating the smell was driving me nuts.

I learned a new thing lately. not long ago when you bought a hose clamp they were all about the same. Lately they have gotten cheaper. While complaining about that the auto parts guy said, "You need fuel injection hose clamps." they look like clamps should and are EXPENSIVE, but they aren't going to wear out any time soon.

Gas and t'tape, are not a good mix.

T'tape also messes with electrical connections on sending units.

BTW-I buy all of my hose clamps from the above outfit in the link--

Figures there would be something wrong with what darned near everybody said I should do. It really didn't need the tape, this is the first time I've ever used it on a fuel fitting. The darned thing is sealed, not leaking and I'm satisfied. The tape isn't really part of the seal anyways. In this instance I'm sure the 2' of rubber hose between the tank and the carb. already messed up the sending unit.

Well that is a new one on me Lumpy, so I did a search on that one. From what I gather the diesel and boat guys seem to have most of the problems with it. The car guys have their problems from bits of Teflon clogging up componets down the line. I would say just one fuel leak or clog can ruin your day, so I will switch to the proper paste to try and avoid any issues. Thanks for that but I have not had any issues with tape though.
Edit: Come to think of it I did once where I pulled some white stringy stuff out of a carb needle and seat on the side of a busy freeway after stalling out. So I guess it was that tape.

I have used t'tape for quick field fixes.
Other than that-I have no use for the stuff.
I have seen t'tape after long exposure to fuel-NOT pretty, just turns into a glob.

My use was more for a thread blocker than anything else. Generally I use the orange gas paste or the automotive thread sealer for vehicle use. I think it must be me being left handed, (I turn the tape in the wrong direction) because I can't get the tape on the way it should be. Paste seems to be far more complete, making it almost impossible not to get deep into the threads.
