Hello guys, I am working on a 1969 CJ5 for a neighbor/friend.

My Jeep is the '77 FSJ next to it.
This CJ has been sitting for about 15 years and he wanted me to get it going and stopping again.
I have been doing normal tune up, clean up items, oil change, spark plugs, carb cleaning and carb kit. Found the gas tank was rusted pretty bad... IMG_1506_zps0cffd7ac.webp
Replaced that with an aftermarket unit.
Currently working on replacing wheel cylinders and brake lines.
I have had it running for a short period of time so far with the old points still in it. All I did with those is inspect them to make sure they didn't have any corrosion on them. They look ok, and a new set is real cheap too.
My question for you guys is if this ignition conversion from RockAuto is a descent unit, and worth the money. The CJ has the V6 in it. Cost is just under $100. More Information for AIRTEX / WELLS 1A4100

I would like to put something like this in place of the old points type ignition.

I really havn't seen one of those conversion kits it quite a while, but I guess it would work. I would think most guys would go for the D.U.I. hei conversion for a whole lot more money. Nice pic of the gas tank btw.

My buddy sourced the parts to a 331 odd fire Skylark (?) through NAPA and saved some money on the conversion. Read up on converting a 225, there is some grinding that needs to be done. Not to worry, this is a track well traveled. He says there was an instant improvement.

Got all the parts for my DSII with TFI coil set up out of the bone yard. Cost me a whopping $41.00 for everything. That was many moons ago but I have never regretted the conversion. I've had one brain box go out on me several years ago. That was the one that came off a mid '70s F150 that I originally used when doing the conversion.

Go "electronic". I doubt you'll ever go back.

The kit in question appears to be simular to a Pertronix conversion. The Pertronix odd-fire kit works just fine and is simple to install and keeps the "stock" look. If you have to have a big HEI unit under the hood go for it. Either one will give great results. The main thing to consider is both use full battery voltage so big increase in coil output potential.Just make sure it is specific to oddfire engine.:) mike
