Quick note to all those without the retaining screw style- the "break thru" area is best broken through with a drill. I had a heck of a time trying to get through it any other way.
I just finished this lock replacement this afternoon. There were a lot of helpful hints on here and other internet resources; however, I did run into a problem getting the lock out of the steering column. I had to drill a hole to expose the lock tab. So after a lot of swearing (and finally exposing the tab) it finally slid right out and right back together. Here is a really good outline of the process with some great pictures although it doesn't mention drilling a hole.
