I installed my new headers today and went for a drive. About a 1/2 mile the engine quit like turning off the key. I found the red wire coming out of the ignition module was melted to the header. I replaced the module and rerouted the wires but the engine will fire when the starter is turning but it stops running when I let off the starter. Any ideas?

That sounds like a miswiring issue. Having two of the wires, the red and blue on the starter relay backwards can cause that. Somehow you are shutting off the secondary ignition system.

best I remember, when cranking the ignition gets power from the starter solenoid and then when the starter is released it gets power through a resister wire from the ignition switch...the reason for this was to supply full voltage while cranking but then once started to supply a lower voltage to prolong point life..If you can't find the problem I would run a wire that gets hot when the ignition is turned on to the coil..might want to run it through a ceramic resister like so many old vehicles had mounted on the firewall to make the points last..if yours has electronic ignition then none of this may apply or if yours is electronic but wired this way then I wouldn't think you would need the resister

Hey Marshall how's the ignition problem coming along. We haven't heard from you since you started this thread.
