Hey There,

I am new to this forum and hopefully someone out there can help me out with a question. My grandfather once rigged up an ignition kill switch on his truck that would prevent power going to the solenoid until you activated the circuit. He tied his into the pull lever for the emergency brake. The idea was you had to pull the brake release before you turned the vehicle on or you wouldn't be able to get it started.

I was interested in installing something similar on my CJ since it has the roof and doors off for most of the year and it is my DD when something isn't busted on it. I would ask My grandfather what he did if he was still around, so hopefully someone here knows what I am talking about.

There is a light blue wire to the starter relay that would work. As it supplies power to a coil that activates the starter. I think a more common location would be the red wire to the coil, as it would disrupt power to the ignition. Some guys just activate it with a switch under the dash. Welcome to the forum, hope somebody does not steal your CJ.

sounds like a neat idea, and it sounds like you would need to put a push button switch behind the pull handle and route the blue wire across that switch. It is the Neutral safety switch wire. You would have to pull that handle and hold it while you start the Jeep tho. Welcome to the forum

Thank you,

I had a lady down the street go on a car theft spree (4 in as many days) Stole a car from one street over, banged it up and parked it on my street. Not the brightest bulb.

So would you ask for a push button switch? I don't really want to kook it to the emergency brake as that seems a little to likely to be pulled but a switch in a different location would do the trick.

A toggle switch hidden under the carpet or such that cuts the NEG(-)lead to the coil is what I use.
Has saved my Jeep twice.
All the engine does is crank.

Here's a vid of Stacy David on some of the things mentioned above. About 2 minutes in he does the distributor switch. Have heard of using a disabled cigarette lighter as a switch and a reed switch I think it's called. Uses a magnet to operate the switch.

That is a great video. What Lumpy stated about using the negative wire on the coil would be a better bet as this would eliminate the possibility of hot wiring it.
