When I purchased mine I just added to my regular policy for a stated value amount. But after some research I discovered companies that insure older vehicles for a lot cheaper than State Farm, Progressive, etc. I use mine on the weekends some but that is it, but I do want full coverage on it.
What kind of insurance do you guys have?

I have Allstate and have my CJ insured as a part time vehicle. At least that is the way they said it would be sometime around 25 years ago.

I had State Farm insure it as a non primary driver. 112$ a year.

Can't beat Hagerty if it's a classic & you want to get your money out of it. I only pay approx. $400. yearly on my Stingray. That's full-coverage & includes flatbed towing for , like, a 50 mile radius... checked into it for my Scrambler. They do limit mileage to cover it as a daily and I didn't want the restrictions. Would be great for Weekend Warriors though...

I currently have State Farm on it but I didn't tell them that is wasn't my primary, so I'm going to call them and give them a chance to give me a better rate. I checked Hagerty this morning and they are cheap!!!!

Hagerty and the other classic car insurance companies will require you send in pics (all four corners) of the insured vehicle so be realistic in your insured value. I have two with Hagery but not the Jeep.

I only sent in one pic of Trixie... and they didn't question the value I requested...

Auto insurance is regulated at the state level, so getting comparisons from people around the country is good only for conversation. So I'll start:

I live in Michigan, which is a No-Fault state. Our rates tend to be a bit higher than other states, but if you are ever really messed up in an automobile accident, you don't have to worry about your medical bills. Ever. Or bills related to your injuries. Ever. It is difficult to sue another drive, even if they are cited as 'at fault'. There is the need to prove negligence, which is difficult to do in Michigan courts.

In my 'No Fault' state, your insurance takes care of you. Whether you are 'at fault' or not.

Your collision coverage can vary, as can your deductible. Insurance companies have a maximum amount they will pay to fix a car. This is a factor of vehicle value and damage.

Carrying the minimum Michigan coverage (PL&PD) and comprehensive to cover fire/theft/glass, I paid less than $50 a month with AAA. But the vehicle was not streetable. After speaking with an agent, I won't insure it with them because they do write 'Agreed Value' policies. I have way too much $$$$ in my Jeep, and will go with Hagerty. Their policy would be $1100 a year, but I will be storing the vehicle 5-6 months, so I can drop the collision coverage when it's not being driven. That should bring me down considerably.

BTW: My wife's 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit, with 3800 miles and one payment made, was rear ended tonight by an older lady. The lady didn't want us to call the police, but experience with accidents in Michigan taught me otherwise. Cops came, the lady was determined to be 'at fault', and we got our case # for our insurance company. We can sue the 'at fault' driver's insurance company in a Mini-tort for up to $1000 to recover our deductible and other damages not covered by our insurance company.

Appreciate the topic being discussed. Before I began my rebuild I called insurance and asked how they would insure for the future. With all I'm putting in I wanted to make sure I would at least get something in the ballpark on value. I believe they said something like a dealer would value it.. I explained a Jeep dealer was not an expert on a 33 year old vehicle that has been rebuilt, restored. Duh. Keeping all the receipts and I'll have to revisit with them or hagerty when we're road worthy.

I went with AAA insurance. I got tired of dealing with people that don't speak english. Now the worst accent i get is Texan. I think there rates are competitive.

'their' - at least Texans know how to use proper grammar....:p

After everyone's suggestion on Hagerty, I'm going to look into it. Anyone have any claims with them and how well they handled it?
